Chocolate was formerly a form of currency.

Chocolate hasn't always been as firm or as delicious as it is now.

Until 1847, chocolate was a delicacy consumed in the form of a bitter liquid. After blending cocoa butter, sugar, and chocolate liquor, the British chocolate manufacturer Fry & Sons pioneered the concept of "eating chocolate." Many people liked this drink since it was gritty rather than smooth.

The milk chocolate recipe took eight years to perfect.

Daniel Peter, a Swiss chocolatier and entrepreneur, struggled for eight years to come up with a viable milk chocolate recipe. He finally discovered that condensed milk was the solution to all his problems in 1875. We're so grateful Daniel didn't give up!

A little goes a long way when it comes to cacao beans.

One pound of chocolate necessitates the use of 400 cacao beans. This is what it means: Every year, each cocoa tree produces 30 to 60 pods. Around 40 beans are contained in each pod. As a result, each tree yields only 2 to 3 pounds of cocoa per year. When you consider that cacao pods are harvested by hand, it's easy to see why good chocolate is so expensive.

White chocolate isn't the same as regular chocolate.
